How I "met" David

I was introduced to David Oakes through
watching Pillars of the Earth 5 years ago.

David plays William Hamleigh...
a power-hungry, lustful villain who likes to
murder at will, beat and rape women, and we won't
talk about what goes on with his crazy mother.

David played his part well.
The guy creeped me out!!!

I remember being so disgusted by his character,
I would cringe when he'd come on screen and do his intense-stare-thing.
Dun dun duuunnnnnnn!!!

The intensity of David's performance struck me.
I immediately didn't like him in any other role.

Juan Borgia isn't exactly a sweetheart after all...

Then I watched The White Queen last month
and thought, "OHMYGOSH there's that guy again!!!"
Something was different this time, though.

As George, David was once again playing a nasty medieval character...
but this time I found myself rooting for the guy.

It's not like George is warm and fuzzy or anything.
So why the sudden fascination with one of David's villains?

 I'm not sure...
but maybe because his hair was just so pretty .
I couldn't help myself... I have a crush on George.

I wanted to know more about David Oakes,
this actor who had repelled and then intrigued me.
I started watching any random YouTube video featuring him.
I began following him on Twitter. (I recommend you do... his personal
photos and thoughts are very entertaining!)

I re-watched Pillars of the Earth this weekend and
instead of being distracted by how gross William Hamleigh is,
I was impressed by how well he is portrayed by David Oakes.
I saw the layers he put into this character.  The little facial expressions
I had missed before.  The desperation and fear in his eyes behind the crazy.
I was surprised to find myself feeling sorry for William and wishing
he could have been redeemed in some way.  (I hate it when
I start rooting for the bad guy!
Now I want to see EVERY David Oakes production.
When I do, I will write my thoughts about them here.

How were YOU introduced to David?
Please share. :)
